Rostislav Dimitrov (Bulgarian: Ростислав Димитров; born 26 December 1974) is a former Bulgarian track and field athlete who specialized in the triple jump. He is widely recognized for his achievements in the late 1990s, including winning silver medals at both the 1999 World Championships and the 1999 IAAF World Indoor Championships.
Early Life and Career
Born in Ruse, Bulgaria, Rostislav Dimitrov began his athletic career with a focus on the triple jump. He quickly rose through the ranks, establishing himself as a significant competitor on the international stage towards the end of the 20th century.Major Competitions
Dimitrov's most successful period came in 1999. At the 1999 IAAF World Indoor Championships held in Maebashi, Japan, he secured a silver medal with a notable jump of 17.26 meters. Building on this success, he went on to win another silver medal at the 1999 World Championships in Seville, Spain, achieving his outdoor personal best of 17.49 meters. In this event, he finished second only to British triple jump legend Jonathan Edwards.In 2000, Dimitrov continued his medal-winning streak by earning a bronze medal at the 2000 European Indoor Championships in Ghent, Belgium. He represented Bulgaria at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia, where he advanced to the final and finished in eighth place.
He also participated in the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece, though he did not progress beyond the qualifying rounds on that occasion.
