Rore is a village located in the municipality of [[Glamoč]], within [[Canton 10]] of the [[Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina]], an entity of [[Bosnia and Herzegovina]].
Geography
Rore is situated in the western part of Bosnia and Herzegovina, within the broader geographical and historical region known as [[Tropolje]] (meaning "Three Fields"), which includes the Glamoč, [[Livno]], and [[Duvno]] fields. The area is characterized by its rugged karst landscape, consisting of valleys, plateaus, and surrounding mountains, typical of the [[Dinaric Alps]] region. The village itself lies within the administrative boundaries of the Glamoč municipality.
Demographics
According to the 2013 census, the village of Rore had a population of 25 inhabitants. Like many rural areas in Bosnia and Herzegovina, especially those in the more remote and mountainous regions, Rore has experienced significant population decline over several decades due to economic emigration and the lasting effects of the [[Bosnian War]] (1992–1995).
History
The region surrounding Glamoč, including the area where Rore is located, has a long and complex history. It has been inhabited since prehistoric times, with evidence of [[Illyrian]] settlements and later [[Roman Empire|Roman]] influence. During the medieval period, it was part of the independent [[Bosnian Kingdom]]. Following the Ottoman conquest in the 15th century, the area came under [[Ottoman Empire|Ottoman]] rule for several centuries, leaving a significant cultural and architectural legacy.
In the late 19th century, the region became part of the [[Austro-Hungarian Empire]], and subsequently, after World War I, it was incorporated into the [[Kingdom of Yugoslavia]]. After [[World War II]], it became part of the [[Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia]]. The village, along with the wider Glamoč municipality, was heavily affected by the Bosnian War in the 1990s, resulting in displacement, demographic changes, and infrastructural damage. Since the war, efforts towards reconstruction and repopulation have been ongoing, though many villages like Rore remain sparsely populated.
Culture and Economy
The economy of Rore and similar villages in the Glamoč region has traditionally been based on agriculture, primarily livestock farming (sheep and cattle) and subsistence farming due to the challenging terrain. The area is known for its traditional rural lifestyle, distinct cultural heritage, and natural beauty. Ecotourism and rural tourism represent potential areas for future development, leveraging the region's untouched nature and historical sites.
