Rondo Theatre

The Rondo Theatre is a performing‑arts venue located in Bath, England. Housed in the former church hall of St Saviour’s Church in the Larkhall district, the building was purchased in 1976 by Doreen and Wilf Williams, who founded The Rondo Trust for the Performing Arts and converted it into a 105‑seat theatre that opened in 1989.

The venue operates as a charitable trust. Major refurbishments were funded through National Lottery grants in 1996 and again in 2003, which added purpose‑built dressing rooms, a foyer, office space and upgraded technical facilities. In addition to its regular programme of around 120 professional and community performances each year—including new writing, touring fringe productions, stand‑up comedy, music and small‑scale opera—the theatre runs an active outreach agenda. This includes a youth theatre scheme (the Rondo Drama Club and Summer School), a scriptwriters’ group, workshops and afternoon tea concerts.

During the COVID‑19 pandemic the theatre closed in 2020 but received £50 000 from the UK Government’s Culture Recovery Fund, enabling it to reopen with socially distanced performances in 2021. In 2023 the venue was affected by the cessation of discretionary arts grants by Bath & North East Somerset Council.

The Rondo Theatre is recognised as an important part of Bath’s cultural infrastructure and serves both professional touring companies and local community groups, most notably the resident Rondo Theatre Company. Its capacity, location in a historic building, and diverse programme contribute to its role as a prominent fringe and community theatre in the South West of England.
