Ronald Stade (born 1953, Berlin, Germany) is a Swedish anthropologist and professor emeritus of peace and conflict studies with a specialization in anthropology at Malmö University. He is best known for his writings on cosmopolitanism, moral issues, cultural theory, and institutionalized images of humanity.
Academic Career
Stade has been affiliated with Stockholm University, the Swedish Collegium for Advanced Study, and Hitotsubashi University in Tokyo. His research areas include cosmopolitanism, ethics, the Middle East, and the Pacific region.
Fieldwork and Publications
His fieldwork in Guam resulted in a book-length ethnography titled Pacific Passages: World Culture and Local Politics in Guam (1998), in which he inverts the conventional anthropological perspective by interpreting local situations in terms of world culture and global politics rather than through a purely cultural lens. His fieldwork in the Middle East is ongoing.
