Ron Stitfall

Ronald "Ron" Stitfall (12 January 1925 – 22 June 2009) was a Welsh professional footballer who spent his entire professional career as a full-back with Cardiff City. He is widely regarded as one of the club's most loyal and influential players, having made over 480 appearances across all competitions during his 17 years with the club.

Early Life and Career

Born in Cardiff, Stitfall began his football career with local junior clubs before joining his hometown club, Cardiff City, as an amateur. His career was interrupted by World War II, during which he served in the Royal Air Force. After the war, he signed professionally with Cardiff City in 1947.

Club Career (Cardiff City)

Stitfall established himself as a reliable and tenacious right-back. Known for his defensive consistency, leadership, and commitment, he quickly became a fan favourite. His career with Cardiff City spanned three decades and included several significant achievements:

  • Appearances: Stitfall made 402 league appearances for Cardiff City between 1947 and 1964, placing him among the club's all-time record appearance holders. Including cup competitions, his total stands at 484 matches.
  • Promotions: He was an integral part of the Cardiff City teams that achieved promotion to the First Division (the top tier of English football at the time) in the 1951–52 and 1959–60 seasons.
