The Rollin' 60s Neighborhood Crips is a "set" of the Crips street gang alliance based in Los Angeles, California. It was originally formed around the Hyde Park area of Los Angeles in 1976 as a faction of the Westside Crips and has since spread to other cities across the United States.
Overview
The gang is named after West 60th Street, which runs through its core territory between Slauson and Florence Avenues in South Los Angeles. Membership is estimated at approximately 1,600 people, making it one of the largest gangs in the Los Angeles area. Members identify themselves by wearing logos of the Seattle Mariners or Chicago White Sox and mark their territory with graffiti.
History
The Rollin' 60s were among the first Crip sets to emerge in Los Angeles. During the 1980s, the gang spread to other cities as part of the crack epidemic. In 1992, Crips kingpin Keith "Stone" Thomas was killed; approximately 400 people, including law enforcement, attended his funeral. By 2004, the Rollin' 60s were described as "the largest black criminal street gang in the City of Los Angeles," and in 2007 the LAPD considered them a top gang in the city.
Criminal activities and investigations
The gang has been involved in racketeering, murder, drug trafficking, arms trafficking, auto theft, armed robbery, burglary, extortion, and fraud. Notable investigations and prosecutions include:
- 1984: Two members were arrested for the murders of four members of professional football player Kermit Alexander's family; police stated the gang members targeted the wrong address.
- 1988: A Rollin' 60s member killed Karen Toshima, an innocent bystander caught in crossfire in Westwood Village, leading to a major LAPD crackdown.
- 2013: A New Jersey drug network overseen by the Rollin' 60s was dismantled, resulting in 23 arrests and seizure of $300,000 worth of drugs.
- 2016: A dozen members of the Detroit branch were arrested and indicted on assault, robbery, carjacking, and drug and firearms trafficking charges.
- 2018: The Roosevelt, Long Island set was dismantled after dozens of members were arrested in 2014 and 2018.
- 2023: 19 members of the Savannah, Georgia branch, including rapper Quando Rondo, were arrested on 49 counts of drug charges and gang affiliation.
- 2025: 19 members of the Los Angeles Rollin' 60s were arrested and charged with racketeering, extortion, human trafficking, fraud, and murder. Those arrested included music executive Eugene "Big U" Henley Jr., whom authorities described as the gang's leader while he posed as a community activist.
Notable members and affiliates
- Tiequon "Lil Fee" Cox – sentenced to death for the 1984 murders of Kermit Alexander's family members.
- Nipsey Hussle – rapper, businessman, and community activist; a member of the Rollin' 60s who was killed by a fellow gang member in 2019.
- Kurupt – rapper, considered an affiliate.
- Lil Loaded – Dallas rapper, stated in an interview that he was an affiliate.
- Quando Rondo – Georgia rapper, member of the Savannah branch.
- Eugene "Big U" Henley Jr. – music executive and reputed leader of the Rollin' 60s; arrested in 2025 on racketeering charges.
