Rodney Liber (born February 9, 1963, in Los Angeles, California) is an American producer of theatrical release feature films. Over a career spanning more than two decades, he was involved in the production of over forty motion pictures.
Career
Liber began his career as a production assistant on films such as Ruthless People (1986) and F/X (1986), working under fellow University of Southern California alumnus and Avatar producer Jon Landau. He later served as a vice president of production at 20th Century Fox, where he supervised the production of My Cousin Vinny and Hot Shots!. He also collaborated with director Michael Mann on the Academy Award-winning film The Last of the Mohicans (1992).
Liber produced two breakout hits: Big Momma's House (2000), starring Martin Lawrence, and the sexual thriller Wild Things (1998). He was a frequent collaborator with director Paul Weitz on both In Good Company (2004) and American Dreamz (2006). His other producing credits include Dragonball Evolution (2009), Cirque du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant (2009), and The Back-up Plan (2010), starring Jennifer Lopez. Liber retired from film production in 2010 to pursue real estate development.
Personal Life
Liber is the son of Sol Liber (1923–2018), a resistance fighter in the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising of 1943 and a survivor of the Treblinka, Majdanek, and Buchenwald concentration camps. Sol Liber was among the first survivors to record their testimony with Steven Spielberg's Shoah Foundation.
Rodney Liber is married to Carla Liber. They have two daughters, Ava and Samantha "Sami" Rose Liber. Sami died on August 8, 2024, at the age of 16, following an ATV accident during a family trip in Jackson, Wyoming. In her honor, the Liber family founded The SAMI Foundation, which supports art, music, and imagination.
