Robin Engleman is an American percussionist, best known for his long and distinguished career as the Principal Percussionist of the San Francisco Symphony.
Engleman's musical journey began early, leading him to pursue advanced studies in percussion at the Juilliard School in New York City. Upon completing his education, he embarked on a professional career that saw him become a highly respected figure in the classical music world.
His most prominent role was with the San Francisco Symphony, where he served as Principal Percussionist from 1974 until his retirement in 2016. During his more than four decades with the orchestra, Engleman contributed to numerous recordings, national and international tours, and countless live performances. He played under the batons of several celebrated conductors and was an integral part of the orchestra's distinctive sound. In addition to his symphony work, Engleman was also active in the contemporary music scene, performing with various ensembles, including the San Francisco Contemporary Music Players.
Beyond his performance career, Engleman has been dedicated to music education.
