Robin E. Bowen is an American academic administrator who served as the twelfth and first female president of Arkansas Tech University (ATU) from 2014 until her retirement in 2023. Her tenure at ATU marked a significant period of growth and development for the institution.
Early Life and Education
Bowen earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from the University of Arkansas. She went on to complete a Master of Science degree in college student personnel administration from the University of Northern Colorado, and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in higher education administration from Texas A&M University.Career
Before her appointment at Arkansas Tech University, Dr. Bowen accumulated extensive experience in higher education leadership across various institutions. Her career included roles at the Nevada System of Higher Education, where she served as Vice Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs. In this capacity, she was responsible for system-wide academic programs, student services, and workforce development initiatives for a system encompassing eight institutions.She also held leadership positions at other universities, focusing on academic affairs, student life, and institutional effectiveness. Her experience prior to ATU included work at the University of Arkansas, the University of Northern Colorado, and Texas A&M University.
Presidency of Arkansas Tech University
On July 1, 2014, Dr. Robin E. Bowen made history by becoming the first female president of a public four-year university in the state of Arkansas when she assumed the presidency of Arkansas Tech University. During her nine-year tenure, ATU experienced several key achievements and developments:- Enrollment Growth and Retention: Efforts were made to enhance student recruitment and retention, leading to periods of increased enrollment and academic success.
