Robert Herman Pruyn (June 10, 1826 – February 1, 1902) was an American lawyer, diplomat, and politician. He practiced law in Albany, New York, and held several public offices. Pruyn served as United States Minister to Japan from 1862 to 1865, representing American interests during a period of significant political change in the country. After his diplomatic service, he was elected to the New York State Senate, where he served during the late 1860s. Pruyn was also involved in the New York State Militia, attaining the rank of colonel. He died in Albany in 1902.
