Robert Howard Mounce (1921 – 2005) was an American New Testament scholar, educator, and author best known for his textbooks on Biblical Greek, particularly Basics of Biblical Greek.
Early life and education
Mounce was born in 1921 in the United States. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Illinois and a Master of Theology (Th.M.) from Dallas Theological Seminary. He completed his doctoral studies at the University of Edinburgh, receiving a Ph.D. in 1961 with a dissertation on the literary structure of the Gospel of Luke.
Academic career
Following his doctorate, Mounce held teaching positions at several institutions, including:
- Fuller Theological Seminary (associate professor of New Testament)
- Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, where he served as professor of New Testament from 1975 to 1989
During his academic tenure, he contributed to the development of New Testament curricula and was involved in scholarly publishing.
