Ritesh Agarwal

Ritesh Agarwal (born 24 November 1993) is an Indian entrepreneur and the founder and chief executive officer of OYO Hotels & Homes (commonly known as OYO), a multinational hospitality chain that aggregates and franchises budget hotels. He is recognized as one of the youngest self‑made billionaires in India.

Early life and education
Ritesh Agarwal was born in Bissam Cuttack, Rayagada district, Odisha, India. He grew up in a modest family; his father was a civil engineer and his mother a teacher. Agarwal attended the Indian School of Business and Finance in Kolkata before enrolling at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay in 2010 to study engineering. He discontinued his studies in 2011 to pursue his entrepreneurial ventures.

Career

Founding of Oravel Stays / OYO
In 2012, at the age of 19, Agarwal launched Oravel Stays, a platform intended to enable online booking of budget accommodations in India. The company was later rebranded as OYO (an abbreviation of “On Your Own”) in 2013, shifting focus to standardizing and franchising affordable hotel rooms under a single brand.

Growth and expansion
Under Agarwal’s leadership, OYO expanded rapidly across India and subsequently entered international markets, including China, Southeast Asia, the United States, the United Kingdom, and the Middle East. By 2022, OYO operated in more than 80 countries and managed over 1 million rooms.
