The Richard Barrett House is a historic one-story frame miner's cottage located at 36 Prospect Avenue in Park City, Summit County, Utah. Built in the 1880s (circa 1883), it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on July 11, 1984 (NRHP reference No. 84002238).
Architectural Significance: The house is architecturally significant as an example of a T/L cottage, one of the three most common house types built during the early period of Park City's mining boom era. It is one of 78 extant T/L cottages in Park City, 17 of which were included in the same National Register nomination. The structure contributes significantly to the character of the residential area.
History: According to Sanborn insurance maps, the house was built by at least 1889 and was probably constructed for Richard and Annie Barrett soon after their arrival in Park City in 1882. Richard Barrett was an English immigrant who came to the United States at age sixteen in 1866 and worked in mines in several western states before settling in Park City. He married Annie in Virginia City, Nevada, in 1876. Annie was born in Pennsylvania in 1859, came west with her parents in 1861, and lived in Grass Valley, California, prior to her marriage. The couple had four children. Richard Barrett lived in the house until his death in 1900, and Annie remained there until her death in 1935. The house remained in the Barrett family until 1966.
