Repsold (crater)

Repsold is a lunar impact crater that lies in the northeast part of the Moon, near the eastern limb. Due to its location, the crater is viewed at a low angle and foreshortening obscures some details. Repsold is situated to the east of the prominent crater Gauss, and west-northwest of the Mare Humboldtianum.

The crater rim of Repsold is heavily eroded and somewhat irregular, with multiple small craterlets along the crest and inner walls. The rim has been breached in several locations by these impacts, particularly along the eastern and western sides. The interior floor is relatively level, but marked by several tiny craterlets. There is no central peak.

The crater is named after Johann Georg Repsold, a German astronomer and instrument maker.
