Rens van Eijden

Rens van Eijden (born 16 July 1988) is a Dutch professional footballer who plays as a central defender. He has played in the Eredivisie and Eerste Divisie for several Dutch clubs, most notably VVV-Venlo, FC Utrecht, and Fortuna Sittard. Van Eijden has also represented the Netherlands at youth international levels.

Early life and youth career
Rens van Eijden was born in Weert, Limburg, Netherlands. He began his football development in the youth academy of VVV‑Venlo, where he progressed through the age‑group teams.

Club career

  • VVV‑Venlo (2006–2009) – Van Eijden made his professional debut for VVV‑Venlo in the Eredivisie during the 2006‑07 season. Over three seasons he accumulated 61 league appearances, establishing himself as a regular starter in central defence.

  • FC Utrecht (2009–2014) – In July 2009, he transferred to FC Utrecht. Van Eijden featured in 117 Eredivisie matches for Utrecht, scoring three goals. He became a regular first‑team player and contributed to the club’s defensive lineup throughout his five‑year tenure.

  • Return to VVV‑Venlo (2014–2017) – Van Eijden re‑joined VVV‑Venlo in 2014, now competing in the Eerste Divisie after the club’s relegation. He made 84 league appearances and scored two goals, helping the team achieve promotion back to the Eredivisie in the 2016–17 season.

  • Fortuna Sittard (2017–2022) – He signed with Fortuna Sittard in 2017, where he added 115 Eredivisie appearances and one goal. Van Eijden served as a senior member of the squad and provided experience in the back line.

  • Later career (2022–present) – After leaving Fortuna Sittard, van Eijden joined amateur side De Treffers in the Tweede Divisie, where he continued to play at a semi‑professional level.
