Reinhold Mathy

Reinhold Mathy (born April 6, 1963) is a German former professional road cyclist. Known for his abilities as a powerful rider, he competed professionally from 1983 to 1988, primarily during the 1980s.

Career: Mathy began his professional career in 1983, joining the French team La Redoute-Motobécane. Throughout his relatively short career, he established himself as a stage hunter, particularly excelling in races designed for developing talent.

A significant part of Mathy's career success came in the Tour de l'Avenir, often considered a stepping stone for future Grand Tour riders. He achieved multiple stage victories in this race, culminating in a general classification victory in 1986, where he also won the prologue and a stage. This overall win highlighted his potential as a strong all-around rider capable of performing well in time trials and holding his own in various terrains.

In 1987, Mathy achieved one of his most notable victories, winning Stage 3 of the Giro d'Italia, one of cycling's prestigious Grand Tours, while riding for the Superconfex-Yoko team. This win marked a high point in his career on the global stage.
