Realitatea TV

Definition
Realitatea TV is a Romanian television channel that primarily broadcasts news, current‑affairs programming, and political analysis.

Overview
The channel was launched on 1 May 2001 by Romanian businessman Silviu Prigoană. It positioned itself as a 24‑hour news service, providing live bulletins, talk shows, and investigative reports. Over the years, Realitatea TV underwent several ownership changes; by the mid‑2010s it was controlled by the media group Realitatea Media, which also operated the online news service Realitatea.net. The channel was available on cable, satellite, and digital terrestrial platforms throughout Romania and was also streamed online. In 2020 the National Audiovisual Council (CNA) withdrew the station’s broadcast licence, and Realitatea TV ceased terrestrial transmission in early 2021, continuing only as an online outlet under the brand Realitatea Plus.

Etymology/Origin
The name “Realitatea” derives from the Romanian word realitate, meaning “reality.” Combined with the abbreviation “TV,” the title conveys the channel’s focus on delivering factual, reality‑based news coverage.
