Raymond Conway Benjamin (1934–2016) was an Australian prelate of the Roman Catholic Church who served as the fourth Bishop of the Diocese of Townsville.
Born on February 24, 1934, in Rockhampton, Queensland, Benjamin was educated locally before pursuing his theological studies for the priesthood. He was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Rockhampton on July 25, 1958. Following his ordination, he served in various pastoral roles within the Queensland region.
On February 14, 1984, Benjamin was appointed by Pope John Paul II to succeed Leonard Faulkner as the Bishop of Townsville. He was consecrated on May 9, 1984, with Archbishop Francis Roberts Rush serving as the principal consecrator. During his sixteen-year tenure, Benjamin oversaw the spiritual and administrative operations of the diocese, which covers a significant portion of North Queensland.
In accordance with canon law, Benjamin submitted his resignation upon reaching the age of 75, which was accepted by the Holy See on September 28, 2000. He was succeeded by Michael Putney and assumed the title of Bishop Emeritus.
Raymond Conway Benjamin died on March 7, 2016, at the age of 82. He is remembered for his leadership in the Australian Catholic community during the late 20th century.
