The town is situated on the banks of the Tungabhadra River and lies on the junction of several state highways, making it a regional commercial hub.

Ranebennuru is located at approximately 14.62°N latitude and 75.62°E longitude, with an average elevation of around 587 meters (1,926 feet) above sea level. The Tungabhadra River flows near the town, providing water resources for agriculture and other uses. The surrounding region is part of the Deccan Plateau and is characterized by a semi-arid climate.

According to the 2011 Census of India, Ranebennuru had a population of roughly 85,000 residents.
