Ramalinga Raju is an Indian businessman who served as the chairman and founder of Satyam Computer Services Ltd., a prominent information technology (IT) services firm, until his resignation in 2009 following the exposure of a large-scale accounting fraud.
Overview
Born in 1955 in Andhra Pradesh, India, Ramalinga Raju established Satyam Computer Services in 1987, building it into one of the leading Indian IT outsourcing companies with a global presence. Under his leadership, the company expanded rapidly through organic growth and acquisitions, and it was listed on both the Bombay Stock Exchange and the New York Stock Exchange. In January 2009, Raju disclosed that the company's financial statements had been manipulated for several years, admitting to inflating cash balances and revenue figures by approximately ₹7,000 crore (about US$1.5 billion). The revelation triggered a major corporate scandal in India, leading to his resignation, criminal investigations, and the eventual takeover of Satyam by Tech Mahindra in 2009.
