Rüti bei Riggisberg is a village and former political municipality in the canton of Bern, Switzerland. It lies within the municipality of Riggisberg, in the former Amtsbezirk (administrative district) of Seftigen. The settlement sits at an elevation of 823 m above sea level, approximately three kilometres south‑south‑west of the main village of Riggisberg.
History
The earliest documentary reference to the locality dates to 1345 under the name Rüti. In 1429 it appears as Rüttin, a name derived from the Old High German word riod (rod, clearing), indicating that the area was originally cleared forest land. Throughout the Middle Ages the village belonged to the lords of Riggisberg and shared in their regional history. From 1831 until 31 December 2008 Rüti bei Riggisberg functioned as an independent political municipality (BFS number 0882). On 1 January 2009 it merged with the neighbouring municipality of Riggisberg.
Geography
The village occupies a trough in the Biberzen valley, flanked by the wooded heights of Gibelegg to the north and the Gurnigel mountain range to the south. Its municipal area (prior to merger) covered 22.17 km², comprising roughly 2 % settlement, 64 % forest, and 32 % agricultural land. The terrain rises from the flat valley floor (≈300 m wide) up to the Zigerhubel peak at 1 620 m, the highest point within the former municipal boundaries.

- Density: 19 inhabitants per km².
- The vast majority are German‑speaking; minor language groups include French (≈0.7 %) and Portuguese (≈0.4 %).
Economy
Historically an agricultural community, Rüti bei Riggisberg still retains a modest farming sector focused on dairy and livestock. Additional employment is provided by local small‑scale enterprises such as a large sawmill, construction firms, carpentry workshops, and a timber framing business. Many residents commute to larger nearby towns (including Thun) for work.

The village is connected to the regional road network linking Riggisberg with the Gurnigel area. Public transport is supplied by PostAuto bus services that run between Riggisberg and the hamlet of Oberplötsch, extending onward to recreational sites such as the Gurnigelbad and Schwefelberg‑Bad.
Recreation & Tourism
Rüti bei Riggisberg serves as a gateway to the surrounding pre‑Alpine landscape, offering access to hiking trails on the Gurnigel mountain and to the Gantrisch region. Winter sports and summer trekking are popular among both locals and visitors from Bern and Thun.
