Quest 2

The Quest 2 (later rebranded as Meta Quest 2) is a virtual reality (VR) headset created by Oculus, a division of Meta Platforms (formerly Facebook, Inc.). It is a standalone headset, meaning it does not require a connection to a PC or smartphone to operate, although it can be linked to a PC for access to PC-based VR content. Released in October 2020, it succeeded the original Oculus Quest.

The Quest 2 features improved specifications over its predecessor, including a higher resolution display per eye, increased RAM, and a more powerful processor. It uses inside-out tracking, employing cameras on the headset to track the user's movements in a defined space without the need for external sensors. It also comes with redesigned controllers that offer improved ergonomics and tracking capabilities.

Key features of the Quest 2 include its standalone functionality, allowing for a wireless and untethered VR experience; its ability to connect to a PC for access to a wider range of VR games and applications; its integrated speakers and microphone for audio and voice communication; and its support for hand tracking, allowing users to interact with virtual environments without the use of controllers.

The headset utilizes the Meta ecosystem and requires a Meta account to operate. Content is available through the Meta Quest Store, which offers a variety of games, applications, and experiences.

The Quest 2's affordability and ease of use have contributed to its popularity, making it a significant device in the consumer VR market and a key component of Meta's metaverse strategy.
