Queenie is a 1987 American two-part television miniseries based on the 1985 novel of the same name by Michael Korda. The miniseries fictionalizes the life of actress Merle Oberon, Korda's aunt.
The story follows Dawn Avalon (portrayed by Mia Sara), an Anglo-Indian girl born in Calcutta during the British Raj. Abandoned as a baby, she is raised in a convent before being thrust into a harsh world. Through a series of events, she makes her way to England and eventually to Hollywood, where she reinvents herself as the glamorous film star Queenie. The miniseries explores Queenie's rise to fame, her troubled personal life, and her efforts to conceal her true origins.
The miniseries also stars Kirk Douglas as David Konig, Joel Grey as Lew Cantor, and Sarah Miles as Lady Daisy Ashford. It was directed by John Erman. Queenie was originally broadcast on ABC and received mixed reviews, with some critics praising Sara's performance and the opulent sets, while others criticized the melodramatic storyline and historical inaccuracies.
