Pyrausta phaeophoenica is a species of moth in the family Crambidae. It was described by the British entomologist George Hampson in 1899.
Taxonomy
The species was first described by George Hampson in 1899 in the Proceedings of the Zoological Society of London. It belongs to the genus Pyrausta within the subfamily Pyraustinae of the family Crambidae. A variant spelling, Pyrausta phaeophoenicea, appears in some taxonomic databases.
Distribution
Pyrausta phaeophoenica is found in Paraná, Brazil.
Description
The wingspan is approximately 14 mm. The forewings are dark purplish red, irrorated (sprinkled) with yellow and greyish scales. The hindwings are black-brown with a yellow spot below the middle of the cell.
