Description
Pseudohydrosme ebo is a herbaceous perennial belonging to the arum family (Araceae). As with other members of the genus, it possesses a basal rosette of foliage leaves and a typical inflorescence consisting of a spathe that encloses a spadix. Specific morphological details (e.g., leaf dimensions, spathe coloration, floral structure) are recorded in the original species description, but comprehensive diagnostic characters are not widely available in secondary sources.
Distribution and habitat
The species is endemic to the Ebo Forest region in southwestern Cameroon, Central Africa. It occurs in lowland tropical rainforest, typically on humus‑rich, well‑drained soils within the forest understory. The known population is confined to a single locality within the forest reserve.
Ecology
The plant is an understory inhabitant, likely relying on the humid microclimate of the rain forest for growth and reproduction. Specific pollination mechanisms and seed dispersal agents have not been documented in publicly accessible literature.
Conservation status
The species is known from a very limited number of individuals at a single site, rendering it vulnerable to habitat disturbance. While a formal assessment by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) has not been published, the authors of the original description suggest that Pseudohydrosme ebo qualifies for a threatened category (e.g., Critically Endangered) due to its restricted range and ongoing threats from logging, agricultural encroachment, and infrastructure development in the Ebo Forest area.
Discovery and naming
The specific epithet ebo refers to the Ebo Forest, the locality where the species was discovered. The species was formally described in 2020 following field surveys and herbarium analyses that distinguished it from other Pseudohydrosme species.
