Project Grizzly is a 1996 documentary film directed by Ron E. Brizzard. The film chronicles the story of naturalist and conservationist Timothy Treadwell and his efforts to understand and live amongst Alaskan grizzly bears in Katmai National Park. It documents Treadwell's multiple summer-long expeditions into the Alaskan wilderness, during which he attempted to befriend and habituate himself to the bears. The film is largely composed of footage shot by Treadwell himself, providing a first-person perspective on his controversial methods and interactions with the bears. It includes commentary from experts, locals, and individuals who knew Treadwell, offering differing perspectives on his work, sanity, and ultimate fate. Treadwell and his girlfriend, Amie Huguenard, were killed and eaten by a grizzly bear in October 2003, several years after the film's release. The documentary serves as a historical record of Treadwell's work and provides insights into the complex relationship between humans and wildlife.
