Tagoe began his senior career with Hearts of Oak in the Ghana Premier League, where he was the league’s top scorer in the 2005‑06 season. His performances earned him a transfer to European clubs, first to Swiss side FC St. Gallen and subsequently to Belgian side KRC Genk. While at Genk, Tagoe contributed to the team’s domestic campaigns and earned a loan move to German Bundesliga club 1. FC Köln.
