Prima Donna (EP)

Prima Donna is the second extended play (EP) by American rapper Vince Staples, released on August 26, 2016, by ARTium Recordings and Def Jam Recordings. The project serves as a follow-up to his 2015 debut studio album, Summertime '06.

The EP consists of seven tracks and features guest appearances from ASAP Rocky and Kilo Kish. Production was handled by several prominent producers, including James Blake, DJ Dahi, and No I.D. The musical style of the project is characterized by experimental and avant-garde hip hop elements, featuring distorted beats and surrealist lyrical themes. Lyrically, the EP explores the psychological toll of fame, the complexities of the music industry, and themes of self-destruction.

To accompany the release, a 10-minute short film of the same name was directed by Nabil Elderkin. The film provides a visual narrative that parallels the EP's themes, depicting a surreal journey through the protagonist's internal struggles.

Prima Donna received critical acclaim upon its release. Reviewers praised Staples for his technical rapping ability and his willingness to experiment with unconventional sounds and structures within the hip hop genre. The EP debuted at number 50 on the Billboard 200.
