Posidonia is an Italian progressive pop band originating from Turin, Italy. The group was formed in 2012 by bassist Alfio Minissale and keyboardist/guitarist Fabrizio Romanelli, initially operating under the name Posidonia Gardens before adopting the shortened name Posidonia in 2015.
History
- 2012–2013: The band’s early lineup consisted of Minissale and Romanelli, with guitarist Luigi Carofilo joining in 2013.
- 2014: Vocalist Elia Pivotto became a member, solidifying the core formation.
- 2015: The name Posidonia was officially adopted.
- 2016: Posidonia participated in several northern‑Italian festivals and competitions, including the Tour Music Fest, where they advanced to the semi‑finals in Rome. During this period, drummer Jean Louis Camilli left the group and was replaced by Camel Tolis. The band released its first EP through the independent label Alka Record.
- 2017–present: The group continues to produce music independently, maintaining an active presence in the Italian alternative music scene.

Posidonia’s sound blends elements of progressive pop, alternative rock, indie rock, and electronic music. Their compositions incorporate influences ranging from 1970s progressive rock to contemporary indie and pop aesthetics, characterized by layered instrumentation, experimental structures, and melodic vocal lines.
Name origin
The band’s name references Posidonia, a genus of seagrass native to the Mediterranean Sea. According to interviews with band members, the name symbolizes a balance between “restlessness and calm” and reflects the ecological significance of the plant’s underwater meadows.
