Port of Calapan

The Port of Calapan is a major maritime gateway located in Calapan City, the provincial capital of Oriental Mindoro, Philippines. Situated on the northeastern coast of Mindoro Island, it serves as the primary entry and exit point for passengers and goods moving between the island and mainland Luzon. The port is managed and operated by the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) under the Port Management Office (PMO) Mindoro.

As a critical component of the Strong Republic Nautical Highway (SRNH)—a nationwide integrated system of roads and ferry routes—the Port of Calapan facilitates significant inter-island trade and travel. It primarily connects to the Port of Batangas, providing a vital link for the transport of agricultural products, livestock, and manufactured goods. The route between Calapan and Batangas is one of the busiest maritime corridors in the Philippines, utilized by various types of vessels including roll-on/roll-off (Ro-Ro) ships, fast crafts, and conventional cargo vessels.

The port infrastructure includes several berths designed to accommodate different vessel drafts and sizes, as well as a modern passenger terminal building equipped to handle a high volume of travelers. Over the years, the facility has undergone various expansion and modernization projects to improve its capacity and safety standards, reflecting its role as a central hub for the regional economy of the Mimaropa region.

In addition to its commercial functions, the Port of Calapan serves as a logistics base for government operations and emergency response efforts within the province. Its strategic location on the Verde Island Passage makes it a significant site for monitoring maritime traffic in one of the world’s most biodiverse marine corridors.
