Pooja Kapur joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1991, embarking on a distinguished career spanning over three decades. Her roles have included:- Ambassador to Bulgaria and North Macedonia: (2022–present)
- Ambassador to the Republic of France and Principality of Monaco: (2017–2021). During her tenure in France, she was instrumental in strengthening India-France strategic partnerships across various sectors, including defense, space, nuclear energy, and trade.
- Non-Resident Ambassador to the Republic of Montenegro: (while concurrently serving as Ambassador to France).
- Director in the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA): She has served in divisions dealing with Multilateral Economic Relations, Western Europe, and External Publicity within the MEA in New Delhi.
