Pomport (French pronunciation: [pɔ̃pɔʁ]; Occitan: Pompòrt) is a commune in the Dordogne department in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region in southwestern France.
Geography Pomport is situated on the first slopes south of Bergerac at an elevation of approximately 155 meters (509 feet). The commune covers an area of 19.55 km² (7.55 sq mi). It is located in the Bergeracois area, about 10 kilometers southwest of Bergerac and 12 kilometers north of Eymet.
Administration Pomport belongs to the arrondissement of Bergerac and the canton of Sud-Bergeracois. It is part of the Communauté d'agglomération Bergeracoise. As of 2023, the commune had a population of 735 inhabitants, with a population density of 37.6 per km². The current mayor (2020–2026) is Anthony Castaing.
Economy and Viticulture The commune is primarily known for its viticulture. Of its 1,954 hectares of land, approximately 1,200 hectares are planted with vines. The area produces Monbazillac white wine and Bergerac red wine, both of which are renowned appellations of the region.
Population The population of Pomport has fluctuated over time: 868 (1962), 765 (1968), 673 (1975), 641 (1982), 655 (1990), 706 (1999), and 788 (2008).
