The local economy has historically been based on farming and forestry.

Etymology The name "Podlipa" is a common Slovene toponym. It literally translates to "under the linden tree" (pod meaning "under" and lipa meaning "linden tree"). This name typically indicates a settlement's location in relation to a prominent linden tree or a grove of linden trees, which often held cultural and historical significance in Slovene tradition.

Demographics As of the 2020 census, Podlipa had a population of 89 inhabitants, reflecting its status as a small rural settlement. Its population dynamics are typical of many Slovenian villages, with a stable or slowly declining population due to urbanization trends.
