Plácido Domingo Jr. (born 21 May 1965) is a Spanish-American singer, songwriter, and record producer. He is the son of renowned operatic tenor and conductor Plácido Domingo and Spanish actress Marta Ornelas. Although primarily known for his work in the pop and contemporary music genres, he has occasionally performed in classical crossover projects.
Early life and education
Domingo Jr. was born in Madrid, Spain, and raised in a musical family. He pursued formal education in music and vocal performance, studying at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) where he earned a degree in music composition.
Career
Beginning in the early 1990s, Domingo Jr. launched his professional career as a songwriter and recording artist. He has written and produced songs for a variety of artists, including his father's duet with Beyoncé on the song “The Dream Is You” (2009) and contributions to the albums of other Latin pop performers. In 2007, he released his debut solo album, Songs of Hope, which featured original compositions blending pop, Latin, and adult contemporary styles. Subsequent releases include Samba (2015) and Cultural Fusion (2020), the latter exploring collaborations with musicians from diverse world music traditions.
In addition to his solo work, Domingo Jr. has performed live as a supporting vocalist for his father’s concerts and has appeared in televised benefit events. He has also been involved in charitable projects, notably contributing to humanitarian campaigns organized by the Plácido Domingo Foundation.
Personal life
Domingo Jr. is married to American actress and singer Carmen Llorente, and the couple has two children. He maintains a bi‑continental residence between New York City and Los Angeles.
