Pinchas Rosen

Pinchas Rosen (1887–1978) was an Israeli jurist and politician who served as Israel's first Minister of Justice, holding the position in three separate terms between 1948 and 1961. Born Friedrich Rosen in Germany, he emigrated to Palestine during the British Mandate period and adopted the Hebrew name Pinchas. A prominent figure in the legal development of the State of Israel, Rosen was instrumental in establishing the country's judicial framework following independence in 1948. He was a member of various political parties throughout his career, including the Progressive Party and the Liberal Party, and was known for advocating liberal democratic values and the rule of law. Rosen also served as a member of the Knesset and played a role in shaping Israel’s early constitutional and legal institutions.
