Pichaqani is a mountain in the Bolivian Andes, reaching an elevation of approximately 4,120 m (13,520 ft).
Overview
The mountain is situated in the Oruro Department, within Challapata Province and the municipality of Challapata. It lies near the Berenguela River, to the southwest of the peak known as Kuntur Uta. The coordinates are 18°52′37″ S, 66°42′48″ W.
Etymology / Origin
The name derives from the Aymara language: pichaqa, phichaqa or piqacha meaning “big needle,” combined with the suffix ‑ni, which denotes “the one with.” Hence, Pichaqani translates roughly as “the one with a big needle.” An alternative spelling is Pichacani.
