Philotheos (also known as Philotheus) served as the Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Alexandria from 1435 to 1459.
He is historically noted for his rejection of the reunion of the Council of Florence (1439), which sought to heal the schism between the Eastern Orthodox and Roman Catholic Churches. Philotheos opposed the union, aligning with the broader Orthodox position that rejected the council's decisions.
His 24-year tenure as patriarch occurred during the final decades of the Byzantine Empire, which fell to the Ottoman Turks in 1453.
