Phil Amicone (born June 20, 1950) is an American politician and civil engineer who served as the 36th mayor of Yonkers, New York, from 2004 to 2014. A member of the Republican Party, Amicone was the first Republican mayor of Yonkers in over three decades.
Early life and education
Amicone was born in the Bronx, New York City. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from Manhattan College.
Professional career
Before entering elective politics, Amicone worked as a civil engineer for the City of Yonkers, eventually becoming the city's chief engineer. He later served on the Yonkers City Council, representing the 1st district from 1992 to 2003.
Mayoral tenure
Amicone was elected mayor of Yonkers in November 2003 and took office on January 1, 2004. He was re‑elected in 2007 and again in 2011. During his administration, he emphasized fiscal responsibility, economic development, and public safety initiatives. Notable projects during his tenure included the revitalization of downtown Yonkers and the expansion of the Yonkers waterfront.
Legal matters
In 2011, Amicone was indicted on charges related to alleged corruption involving a municipal contract and campaign contributions. He stood trial and was acquitted of all charges later that year.
Later activities
After completing his third term as mayor, Amicone did not seek re‑election in 2013. He has remained active in local civic affairs and has served on various boards and committees related to municipal governance and urban development.
