Petrina Haingura

Early life and education
Petrina Namutenya Haingura was born on 27 July 1959 in Rundu, Okavango Region (then part of South West Africa). She pursued a career in nursing and health care, earning a certificate in Nursing from Onandjokwe Lutheran Medical Training School in 1980, a diploma in nursing from Oshakati Nursing College in 1984, and a diploma in midwifery from Windhoek Nursing College in 1985. Haingura later obtained an advanced diploma in Health Promotion and Diagnostics from the University of Namibia (1992), a diploma in Community Health from the African Medical and Research Foundation in Nairobi, Kenya, and a master’s degree in Community Health from the University of Liverpool.

Political career
Haingura is a member of the South West Africa People’s Organization (SWAPO). She entered politics through active involvement in SWAPO‑supporting activities from 1980 onward. In 2005 she was elected to Namibia’s National Assembly, representing SWAPO. At the time of her election, she served as Deputy Minister of Health and Social Services. Haingura has also participated in the SWAPO Party Women’s Council.

Personal life
She was married to Ambrosius Haingura, a fellow SWAPO politician and activist who died in 2010.
