Petr Heinzel is a Czech solar physicist and professor at the Astronomical Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic (ASI). His research concentrates on the physics of the solar atmosphere, with particular emphasis on radiative‑transfer processes in the chromosphere, prominences, and solar flares. Heinzel has contributed to the development of numerical models and non‑local thermodynamic equilibrium (non‑LTE) radiative‑transfer codes that are widely used for interpreting solar spectral observations.
He is the author or co‑author of a substantial body of peer‑reviewed literature, including numerous articles in Solar Physics, Astronomy & Astrophysics, and related journals, as well as chapters in specialist volumes on solar prominences and chromospheric diagnostics.
