Peter Ford is an American actor and author, primarily known for his work in mid-20th-century film and television and for his biographical writing regarding his parents, Hollywood stars Glenn Ford and Eleanor Powell.
Born on February 5, 1945, in Los Angeles, California, Ford was the only child of actors Glenn Ford and Eleanor Powell. His involvement in the film industry began in childhood, including a brief, uncredited appearance as a toddler in the 1946 film Gilda, which starred his father. During his youth and early adulthood, Ford appeared in several feature films, including The Gazebo (1959), Pocketful of Miracles (1961), and Dear Heart (1964). His television work included appearances in series such as Cade’s County and The Men from Shiloh.
Beyond his performance career, Ford was involved in various professional fields, including music, radio broadcasting at KMPC in Los Angeles, and residential construction and design. He is notably recognized as the custodian of his father's personal archives. This work led to the publication of Glenn Ford: A Life (2011), a biography published by the University of Wisconsin Press. The book is based on extensive personal diaries and documents, providing a factual account of Glenn Ford’s career and private life within the context of the Hollywood studio system.
Ford continues to serve as a historian of his parents' legacies, participating in documentaries and retrospectives concerning the Golden Age of Hollywood.
