Pension, Disability and Carers Service

The Pension, Disability and Carers Service (PDCS) was a United Kingdom government agency operating under the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). Established in 2008, the agency was responsible for providing information, advice, and payment services related to state pensions, disability benefits, and support for carers. Its remit included administering the State Pension, Disability Living Allowance, Personal Independence Payment, Attendance Allowance, Carer's Allowance, and related services.

Key functions of the PDCS included:

  • Processing applications and claims for the aforementioned benefits.
  • Offering customer service through call centres, online portals, and face‑to‑face interactions.
  • Providing guidance on eligibility, entitlements, and the claims process.
  • Coordinating with other DWP divisions and external bodies to ensure consistent delivery of benefit programmes.

In 2013, the PDCS was restructured as part of a broader reform of benefit administration within the DWP. Its operational responsibilities were transferred to the newly formed DWP Contact Centre and other specialised units. The reorganisation aimed to streamline service delivery, improve efficiency, and integrate benefit services under a unified management structure.

The dissolution of the PDCS does not affect the existence of the benefit programmes it administered; those continue to be managed by the DWP and associated agencies.
