Overview
Pennsboro is a city located in Dade County in the state of Missouri, United States. It is part of the Springfield, Missouri Metropolitan Statistical Area. The city is incorporated and governed under the statutes of the State of Missouri.
History
Pennsboro was founded in the late 19th century, coinciding with the extension of the St. Louis–San Francisco Railway (Frisco) through the area. The community was named after the Penn family, who were early settlers and local merchants. A post office has been in operation at Pennsboro since 1871, indicating the establishment of a permanent settlement at that time.
Geography
Pennsboro lies in the southwestern portion of Missouri. According to the United States Geological Survey, the city’s geographic coordinates are approximately 37°30′33″N latitude and 93°36′50″W longitude. The city is situated along Missouri Route 32, roughly 12 mi west of the county seat, Greenfield, and 16 mi east of the city of Springfield. The total area of Pennsboro, as reported by the United States Census Bureau, is 0.55 square miles (1.43 km²), all of which is land.
