Pembarthi

Pembarthi is a village and administrative mandal headquarters in Jangaon district in the Indian state of Telangana. The settlement is situated approximately 50 km southeast of the district headquarters, Jangaon, and about 150 km east of the state capital, Hyderabad. The village lies on the banks of the Nizamabad–Warangal railway line and is served by Pembarthi railway station.

Geography
Pembarthi is located at an elevation of roughly 350 meters (1,150 ft) above sea level. The surrounding region consists mainly of black cotton soil, supporting agriculture and related rural activities.

Demographics
According to the 2011 Census of India, the total population of Pembarthi mandal (which includes the village and surrounding habitations) was approximately 63,000, with the village itself accounting for about 12,000 residents. The official language is Telugu; Urdu and Hindi are also spoken by minority communities.

Economy and Industry
Pembarthi is especially noted for its traditional metal craft, commonly referred to as “Pembarthi metalwork.” Artisans in the village produce a variety of brass and copper items, including household utensils, ornamental pieces, and ritual objects. The craft has been practiced for several generations and is recognized for its distinctive designs and hand‑hammered techniques. These products are marketed both within the state and to other parts of India, contributing significantly to the local economy.

Agriculture remains a secondary source of livelihood, with paddy, cotton, and maize being the principal crops cultivated in the surrounding fields.

Transport
Pembarthi is connected by road to nearby towns such as Jangaon, Warangal, and Siddipet via state highways. The village is also on the railway line linking Warangal and Nizamabad; passenger trains halt at Pembarthi railway station, providing rail access to larger urban centers.

Education and Infrastructure
The village hosts several primary and secondary schools affiliated with the Telangana State Board of Secondary Education. A government-sponsored junior college offers higher secondary education in science, arts, and commerce streams. Basic health facilities, including a primary health centre, serve the local population.

Cultural Significance
The metalcraft tradition of Pembarthi has been highlighted in state-sponsored exhibitions and cultural festivals that promote indigenous handicrafts. Artisans often partake in workshops and training programmes aimed at preserving the craftsmanship and improving market access.

Administrative Status
Pembarthi functions as the headquarters of Pembarthi mandal, an administrative subdivision of Jangaon district. The mandal is part of the Warangal Lok Sabha constituency and the Jangaon Vidhan Sabha constituency.
