Historical Overview
- The earliest documented reference to the settlement dates to 22 December 1143, when King Alfonso VII granted the fuero (charter) of Sepúlveda to the nearby villa of Roa, which included the area of Pedrosa.
- On 17 March 1295, Queen Violante of Castile (widow of Alfonso X) issued an arbitration ruling concerning disputes between the inhabitants of Roa and its surrounding villages, including matters of wall construction, vineyard boundaries, and grazing rights.
- In the 1591 census of the Crown of Castile, Pedrosa de Duero was listed as part of the Tierra de Roa within the “province” of Burgos, with 1 569 taxable households, of which 563 resided in the municipal head.
- Throughout the 17th and early 18th centuries, the community pursued legal and financial autonomy, culminating in a successful resolution of its municipal status in 1726.
