Pedapadu mandal

Pedapadu mandal is an administrative sub‑district (mandal) in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is one of the mandals in the Eluru district (previously part of the West Godavari district) and falls under the jurisdiction of the Eluru revenue division.

Geography
The mandal is situated in the coastal plain of the Krishna River basin. It shares boundaries with several other mandals: Denduluru to the north, Unguturu to the east, and Nuzvid to the south. The headquarters of the mandal is the town of Pedapadu.

Administrative composition
Pedapadu mandal comprises a total of 18 revenue villages and 22 hamlets (habitations) as recorded in the 2011 Census of India. The villages include Pedapadu, Vengalapadu, Kothapalli, and others.

Demographics
According to the 2011 Census of India, Pedapadu mandal had a total population of 60,941 individuals. The gender ratio was approximately 987 females per 1,000 males. The literacy rate stood at 66.57 %, with male literacy at 73.79 % and female literacy at 59.26 %. Telugu is the official and predominant language spoken in the mandal.

Economy
The economy of Pedapadu mandal is primarily agrarian. The majority of the working population is engaged in cultivation of paddy, sugarcane, and various pulses. Small‑scale trading and services support the local economy, especially in the mandal headquarters.

Transportation
Road connectivity links Pedapadu mandal to nearby towns and cities, including Eluru, which is the district headquarters. State highways and rural roads facilitate movement of people and goods. The nearest railway stations are located in Eluru and Vijayawada.

Education and health services
The mandal hosts several government primary and secondary schools, along with a few private educational institutions. Primary health care is provided through a community health centre located at Pedapadu town, supplemented by sub‑centres in surrounding villages.
