Early Life and Education

Literary Career

Yoon's literary career began with the publication of his short story collection, Once the Shore, in 2009. This collection garnered significant praise and established him as a distinctive new voice in American fiction. His subsequent works have continued to explore complex characters and historical landscapes with a distinctive, often spare and lyrical prose style.

His novels and short stories are noted for their evocative atmospheres, meticulous prose, and deeply empathetic portrayals of characters grappling with loss, memory, and the search for belonging. While his narratives often touch upon the legacies of war (such as the Korean War or the Vietnam War), his focus remains on the intimate human experiences within these larger historical currents.
