Paul Osborne (born 1950) is an Australian former politician who served as a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly from 1988 to 1999, representing the electoral district of Bathurst. He was a member of the National Party.
Early Life and Career
Born in Bathurst, New South Wales, Osborne was educated locally. Prior to entering state politics, he had a career in local government and business. He worked as an accountant and was involved in various community organizations in the Bathurst region. His background in local affairs and commerce provided him with a strong understanding of the issues facing rural communities in New South Wales.Political Career
Osborne was first elected to the New South Wales Legislative Assembly at the 1988 state election, winning the seat of Bathurst for the National Party. He successfully held the seat for three terms, through the 1991 and 1995 elections.During his tenure in the Parliament, Osborne served in the Greiner and Fahey Liberal-National Coalition governments. He held ministerial portfolios, including:
- Minister for Rural Affairs
- Minister for Water Resources
In these roles, he was responsible for policies impacting regional development, agriculture, and water management across New South Wales. His focus often centered on addressing the unique challenges faced by rural and regional areas, advocating for resources and services for these communities.
