Park Yong-kyun (Korean: 박용균; Hanja: 朴容均; October 1, 1920 – May 17, 1989) was a South Korean politician and former military officer. He served as a member of the National Assembly of South Korea for three terms during the mid-20th century.
Early Life and Military Career
Born on October 1, 1920, Park Yong-kyun embarked on a military career. He served in the Republic of Korea Army, achieving the rank of Colonel. His military service provided him with experience in national defense and administration before he transitioned into politics.
Political Career
Following his military career, Park Yong-kyun entered the political arena. He was elected to the National Assembly of South Korea for three consecutive terms:
- 4th National Assembly (1958–1960): Elected as a member of the House of Representatives during the First Republic.
- 5th National Assembly (1960–1961): He was also involved in the short-lived Second Republic, serving in both the House of Representatives and briefly as a member of the House of Councillors (the bicameral system of the Second Republic).
- 6th National Assembly (1963–1967): Following the establishment of the Third Republic, he was again elected to the unified National Assembly.
Throughout his political career, Park Yong-kyun was associated with various political parties, including the Democratic Party, Minjung Party (Popular Party), Minsu Party, and the Democratic Republican Party. As a legislator, he contributed to discussions and legislation concerning national security, defense, and the development of democratic institutions in post-Korean War South Korea.
Death
Park Yong-kyun passed away on May 17, 1989, at the age of 68. He is remembered for his dual contributions to South Korea, both in military service and as a parliamentarian during a formative period of the nation's history.
