"Papercuts" is a song by Australian rapper Illy, featuring Australian folk/indie-pop vocalist Vera Blue, and produced by M-Phazes. It was released on 8 July 2016 as the lead single from Illy's fifth studio album, Two Degrees, where it appears as the sixth track.
Background and release
Upon release, Illy stated, "I've been holding on to 'Papercuts' for a while, and I'm really excited that it's finally coming out. It's a different vibe to anything I've done before." The song was written by Alasdair David George Murray, Mark Landon, Celia Pavey, and Thomas Macken, and produced by M-Phazes. It was released under the labels ONETWO and Warner Music Australia.
Commercial performance
"Papercuts" debuted at number thirty-seven on the Australian ARIA singles chart before climbing to number two in subsequent weeks, becoming the highest-charting single for both Illy and Vera Blue at the time. It also reached number one on the ARIA Urban Singles chart and charted in Belgium (Ultratip Bubbling Under Flanders) and New Zealand (Heatseekers chart). The song was certified 8× Platinum in Australia and Gold in New Zealand.
